After her brief leave, Belldandy returns moments later
dressed in her racing gear, and sits down upon the go-kart.
She then suggests that Sora sit down on the kart with
her, although there is not much room, and the nervous
student has to squeeze herself into the small space
on the kart in-between the Goddess' legs. After Belldandy
and Sora drive off, Chihiro leaves to go back to the
Whirlwind shop, stating that she's not needed here any
longer. Now that Belldandy is helping Sora gain her
confidence, she believes there is no question that Hasegawa
will be successful.
As
Belldandy and Sora speed their way down the racing track,
the young student is quickly beginning to lose her nerve
and grow frightened, even with Belldandy right behind
her. The Goddess senses this, and decides to divert
Sora's attention, making her notice a beautiful skylark
flying overhead. As they drive together, Belldandy points
out other form of natural wildlife all around them (an
owl, a raccoon family). Sora grows increasingly excited,
as she has never had a chance to view such animals up
close. This takes her mind off of her fear of the go-kart,
and lifts her spirits.
When
the two have stopped the vehicle, Belldandy suggests
that Sora not concentrate on her fear, but on the beauty
that is all around her as she drives, and to feel the
wind. Most of all, the deity suggests that she must
"talk to her go-kart", creating a better and
more confident relationship between driver and machine.
When it is time to head back to the others waiting for
them, Belldandy's words have given Sora the courage
to try riding the go-kart by herself. As Sora drives
down the track alone, she keeps the Goddess' words fresh
in her mind, and is even starting to enjoy herself as
she drives.
When
Sora returns to the small group of Auto Club members
waiting for her to return, they are overjoyed to see
her driving on her own without Belldandy. This means
she is now confident enough to race against Keiichi,
and she actually has a chance of beating him, so she
doesn't have to become the Director of the Club. As
the Club members cheer, Belldandy makes a sudden return,
and is happy to see Sora more confident in her abilities.
It is then that she asks why the young student does
not want to be the Director of the Auto Club in the
first place. Sora's expression instantly turns grave
at the question. She is forced to admit that she has
another nickname besides "Hasegawa: The Chef Assassin".
(See Chapter 49: The Lunchbox of Love) She also goes
by the nickname of "Director Sora: Angel of Death".
Sora
goes on to explain that all through her academic life,
she has been put in charge of various clubs and school
groups. Each and every time, her leadership skills led
to the destruction and ultimate disbanding of each club.
Homeroom Director (3rd Grade), Ping Pong Club (6th Grade),
Art Club Director (Middle School), music (high school)
- each and every organization has met with failure.
She fears that if she is put in charge of the Auto Club,
it will meet the same fate as all the others. Sora is
no longer able to hold back her sadness, and Belldandy
comforts her, holding her close as the Chapter comes
to an end.
