  Volume 15 Chapter 84 - At Sayoko’s Side

Keiichi is making his way up the long winding stairway to Sayoko’s throne room, but Hasegawa has fallen far behind, and can’t keep up with him. He is forced to carry her on his back as he runs up the stairs. Just then, however, the steps behind him begin to retract, and are quickly catching up to them. Keiichi races to the top, trying to outrun the quickly retracting steps. He finally makes it to the top, and bursts right through the door at the end, where he finds Sayoko waiting for him, seated upon her throne.

He runs toward “Queen Sayoko”, demanding to know where Belldandy is, only to be stopped by a large pit of water that separates them. Sayoko states she can arrange a meeting with the Goddess if Keiichi joins with her, and becomes her willing slave like everyone else at the school. Keiichi naturally refuses, stating that the ribbon tied around his head protects him from the Mind-Force Field. However, our hero discovers too late that he has been tricked. It seems that Hasegawa is still under Sayoko’s control. She had tied a plain, ordinary ribbon around her head to fool Keiichi into thinking she was not under the spell. Keiichi tries to run, but because he had to carry Sora up the long flight of stairs, his legs are not strong enough to make it. Hasegawa approaches him, preparing to take the protective ribbon off his head…

At that same moment, Urd and Skuld are getting nowhere fast in their search. The Goddesses begin to argue over whose fault it is that they’re lost, and Skuld summons her attack magic at Urd in anger. Urd is unimpressed, knowing that Skuld does not have much power. To her shock (and Skuld’s), the blast that Skuld sends is powerful enough to rip a large hole through the wall behind her, and continues on, blasting through the various other walls behind it. Skuld thinks she’s gotten stronger, but Urd is suspicious. To test her theory, she summons a tiny ball of light, which all of a sudden goes out of control, careening around the room and bouncing off the walls. It seems that Urd’s hunch is correct. Something is boosting their magical power, which is probably how this castle is being made. Sure enough, the two Goddesses discover a large magic boosting machine hidden behind one of the walls that Skuld had blasted apart with her spell.

Meanwhile, Belldandy is continuing to make her way to Keiichi. When she finally arrives at the throne room, she is shocked to discover Sayoko seated upon her throne. At her side is Keiichi. He is sitting on all fours, and dressed in a dog costume. The ribbon has been removed from his head, and he is now under Sayoko’s control, being forced to act like her dog and obey her every command. Sayoko states that Belldandy can leave with Keiichi only if he willingly agrees to go with her. The Goddess approaches him, only to have Keiichi growl in anger. Seeing no other option, Belldandy prepares to take off her own ribbon, and give it to Keiichi, sacrificing her freedom for his. Sayoko warns Belldandy that she will be under her control if she does so, and that the sight might be too much for Keiichi to bear. However, the Goddess is certain that the freedom to feel sorrow and other emotions on one’s own, without being controlled, is much better than a life of servitude, and places her ribbon around Keiichi’s head.

Now that Belldandy is under the control of Sayoko’s Mind-Force Field, the Queen promptly orders her to entertain her by performing various tricks. However, Sayoko has grown bored with this game of Campus Queen, and decides that she’s had enough. She orders all of her subjects to go home, stating that it will be much more gratifying to beat Belldandy without the use of magic or mind control. Just then, though, Mara grabs Sayoko from behind, stating that she can’t end this without her permission. Sayoko is under contract with Mara, since she made all of this possible, and she’s not going to let the “Queen” just walk away from this so easily…
