Chihiro is holding a meeting at the Nekomi Tech Motor
Club clubhouse, with the current subject being the drastically
short funds that the group is just scraping by with.
Chihiro, however, tries to lift their spirits by telling
them they never know when riches (and perhaps even treasure)
will show up. Trying to put their worries aside, she
orders the group to clean out the clubhouse, even enlisting
Tamiya and Otaki, who are hiding in the bushes nearby
once more, to help. Seeing Tamiya and Otaki, Keiichi
can only wonder why they are so afraid of Chihiro, and
always try to hide from her.
The
cleaning of the clubhouse commences, and the group is
disappointed that they still have not been able to find
anything valuable in the process. Fate steps in when
Keiichi trips his foot against a mop propped against
a wall. He tries to grab onto a picture hanging on the
wall to balance himself, but the picture gives way,
sending him crashing to the floor. However, the cracked
frame reveals a sort of treasure map hidden behind the
picture held within. (Unseen by anyone else, this makes
Tamiya and Otaki very nervous. They seem to recognize
it.) Belldandy examines the map and senses that it leads
to something very important. The group decides to go
about decoding the riddles enclosed with the treasure
map, while Tamiya and Otaki (who we learn are the ones
who made the map, and dont want the others to
see whats hidden) secretly plot to get to the
hidden object before the others can. If only they could
remember where they had originally hidden it
Keiichi,
Belldandy, Chihiro, Hasegawa, and the others are trying
to figure out the map and the clues, but so far have
had no luck. There are a series of numbers written on
a separate piece of paper, but no indication as to what
they mean. And the map does not even tell where to start,
or where the goal is located. They try various ideas
to figure out the numbers (The number of steps you must
take? Add them all together?), but nothing pans out.
Finally, they decide on finding an official map of the
campus, and comparing it to the crude hand-drawn one
that they have.
However,
when they leave the clubhouse, they are met by a surprising
sight. Just about every student on campus has the exact
same treasure map they do, and are making their own
efforts to figure it out. It seems that Tamiya and Otaki
have made copies of the map, and are selling it to students
all over. That way, whoever eventually finds the hidden
box they buried long ago, theyll take it from
them before it can be opened, and they can make a lot
of money in the process.
When
the group returns to the clubhouse, Keiichi is still
trying to figure out the crude map, and the numbers,
but still cant make out anything that would be
helpful. Just then, Belldandy realizes that the hand-made
map and the official printed version they recently received
overlap. They can use this to discover the starting
point, which seems to be the image of a whale drawn
on the official map. Keiichi is at a loss, wondering
where theyll find a whale on campus, but Chihiro
reminds him of the large fountain thats located
in the center square which features a statue of a whale
spraying water. Now that they have their starting point,
they can easily follow the maps directions to
where the treasure is.
Following
the treasure maps directions, Keiichi and the
others are led to a building on the campus. Unfortunately,
now they dont know where in the building to look.
Perhaps the sheet with all the numbers holds the answer.
Hasegawa tries entering the numbers in a calculator,
then turning the device upside down, seeing if it the
numbers form a word when you look at them from a different
angle, but this proves futile. Belldandy once again
comes to the rescue, discovering that when the numbers
are entered into a calculator, the series of buttons
seem to form a letter. For example, when you enter 37421,
the combo of buttons are entered in a formation that
resembles the letter L. Applying this basic
Cryptography to all of the numbers on the sheet spells
out the word Labokakuta, or the Kakuta
Labs, which is located inside the building. Our
heroes now have their destination.
Keiichi,
Belldandy, Chihiro, and the others race inside the lab,
and begin their search, much to the protest of the students
working within. Finally, they discover the location
of the hidden box behind the labs PA speaker mounted
on the wall. They remove the treasure box from inside
the speaker, only to discover its locked. Belldandy,
however, quickly discovers the combination. The box
is finally opened, only to reveal a pair of rings inside.
Keiichi does not think they seem very valuable, yet
Chihiro seems strangely emotionally stricken by the
sight of them. Belldandy notices this, and follows Chihiro,
who goes off to be alone on the buildings roof.
Belldandy
approaches Chihiro, presenting her the rings. She knows
they belong to the Auto Club founder, as her name is
engraved within each of them. Chihiro explains that
the rings were given to her by both Tamiya and Otaki
long ago. They had declared their love for her, but
she could not decide between them. They competed for
her affections, but in the end, she chose the good of
the Club over their love, knowing that if she had to
choose between them, it could create a rift in the Auto
Club. This is why Tamiya and Otaki always get nervous
around her. They still hold their feelings for her,
and are embarrassed someone will find out. Belldandy
assures her that their strange reactions around her
are out of love, not fear, and that Chihiro should not
be afraid to be a hopelessly romantic girl
once in a while.
As
for Tamiya and Otaki, theyve passed out so many
of their homemade treasure maps to the students of the
campus that they cant keep track of them all.
Just then, Chihiro approaches, instantly turning the
two into babbling apologetic fools, who state they only
did this to make money for the Auto Club. Chihiro takes
them on their offer, swiping all the money they had
collected from the scheme, but also shows them that
she is wearing both of the rings they had given her
long ago on her finger
