Volume 12 Chapter 72 - Men Are From Earth, Goddesses Are From Yggdrasil

Urd has had enough of Peorth’s presence around the house, and goes directly to Keiichi to confront him about it. The longer Peorth stays here and throws herself at Keiichi, the more jealous Belldandy will become, and everyone knows what happens when Belldandy becomes jealous (see Chapter 57 – “Fallen Angel”). Keiichi realizes the truthfulness behind Urd’s words, and decides to finally do something about this situation with Peorth. As he makes his way down the hall to look for her, he happens to spy Belldandy sitting alone in her room, a very deep and distant expression on her face. Keiichi assumes the worst, and thinks that a “jealousy storm” is brewing, so he decides to race off and find Peorth immediately before any trouble can truly begin. If only he knew that Belldandy was simply thinking of holding a “Welcome to Earth” party for Peorth…

Keiichi finally finds Peorth sitting outside, reading a manga. He’s come to ask what he’s supposed to wish for, as he does not understand what she means by “his heart’s desire”. Peorth states that she cannot tell him, as the desire must come from deep within him. But, she has helpfully offered a hint on the desk in his room. Keiichi heads to his room, and searches where Peorth told him to look, only to find a racy adult magazine waiting for him. It is then that he finally realizes Peorth’s true intentions – she wishes to satisfy his sexual desires that Belldandy has been unable to fulfill. Keiichi outright refuses, since performing such an act when there is no real love involved is wrong. Peorth quickly solves this problem by declaring her love for him, if that’s all it takes. This sends the poor guy into hysterics. After all, Belldandy once told him that a Goddess is incapable of lying due to the rules they must follow. Could Peorth truly be in love with him, or is she just messing with his mind in order to get him in bed.

Peorth has had enough waiting, and asks that he speak his request. Keiichi decides he has no choice, since this is the only way he’ll ever be rid of Peorth. He asks that she grant his heart’s desire. A beam of light magically shoots out of the emblem on Peorth’s forehead, and reaches high into the Heavens above. Keiichi tries to tell her he’s changed his mind, but it is too late – the wish has been accessed and approved by the Almighty. Peorth wastes no time in sexually pursuing after our hero as he makes a run for it. As Keiichi runs, he bumps right into Belldandy, who is rather confused by his sudden odd behavior, and why he seems so scared all of a sudden. Before he can explain, Peorth appears, ready to continue with the chase. Keiichi realizes that he doesn’t have time to explain, and asks that Belldandy not ask any questions, and just run off with him, so they can get away.

The two board Keiichi’s motorcycle, and ride off, leaving the passionate fourth Goddess behind. Peorth won’t give up so easily, however. She climbs on Belldandy’s bicycle, and summoning a magical spell, makes the bike run as fast as the wind so that she can catch up with the fleeing Keiichi. Seeing how desperately Peorth is pursuing them, Belldandy asks what’s going on. All Keiichi will say is that it has to do with his wish. The gentle deity is not sure what he means, but realizes it’s important that he gets away from Peorth, so Belldandy helps him out by casting her own spell which shrinks Peorth’s bike into a tiny and slow-moving bike. Keiichi is safe for now, but the situation turns grave when the motorcycle begins to run out of gas. Fortunately, he’s near the Nekomi Tech campus, and can go inside the Motor Club Clubhouse to get some spare fuel.

Inside the Clubhouse, Keiichi and Belldandy stop for a moment to catch their breath, now that they’ve lost Peorth. Belldandy can finally ask what he meant by Peorth having granted his wish. As Keiichi struggles to explain what Peorth meant by his “heart’s desire”, he thinks back on Peorth’s words about how he needs to be more honest with himself. Keiichi has long wanted to physically show his love to Belldandy, but there has been something that has always prevented him from showing her, even though he knows she deeply loves him. Keiichi tries to explain how he feels, but this moment is interrupted by the arrival of Peorth who has finally tracked them down.

Belldandy stands in front of Keiichi to protect him, demanding that she not torture him anymore. Peorth asks if perhaps it is Belldandy, and not her, who is torturing him. After all, Keiichi is a man, and Belldandy as a Goddess First Class must grant any desire of his as a sense of duty. Belldandy can finally speak her true heart – she is not with Keiichi out of duty or out of the contract, she is here out of her love for him. This is all Keiichi needs to hear. Hearing her worlds has satisfied him, and fulfilled his heart’s desire. He does not need anything more than her love. Peorth sighs, knowing that she has done what she came for. Keiichi’s heart is finally happy, and so she can return home back to the Heavens.

Peorth makes the phone call to announce that she is returning, and then prepares to leave. She says her farewells to Keiichi, certain that they will never meet again. (Of course, we as the readers know better…) Belldandy finally realizes that all of the problems Peorth caused during her stay were just so that Keiichi and her could express their true feelings for each other. Peorth only smiles as she is sent back home to the skies above. Our two heroes now have a better understanding of each other’s feelings, thanks to the troublesome fourth Goddess who has left a permanent mark in their lives.
