Volume 12 Chapter 68 - The Battle for Keiichi

It is a typical morning at the house, as Peorth has once again awakened Keiichi by playfully throwing herself upon him, and trying to seduce him into revealing his heart’s true desire. Despite her best and most sexy efforts, he still rejects her. Peorth stands alone, contemplating why this is so. She then comes to the realization that Keiichi does not know how to express love. After all, what other explanation can there be when he has lived with Belldandy for so long, and has not yet expressed his true passion for her? Peorth decides she will personally end Keiichi’s “suffering”.

Sneaking into Urd’s bedroom, Peorth swipes some of the Goddess’ magical pills, namely the Seeds of Love (a pill that makes you fall in love with the first person you see). Peorth decides to “improve” the tablet by making it so that it will cause Keiichi to fall in love only with her. That way, he can finally express his “heart’s desire” of physical love through Peorth. Dubbing the pill “The Crystal Teardrop of Love”, Peorth prepares to make her move, only to be stopped by the arrival of Belldandy. Although Belldandy understands that Peorth is only trying to fulfill her contract and grant Keiichi’s wish, she feels that the fourth Goddess is being a burden to him. Peorth coldly shrugs the notion off, reminding Belldandy that she has not fulfilled her job of granting his heart’s desire, as there is obviously something else in his life that Keiichi wants. And since Belldandy seems to be incapable of doing so, Peorth has determined she will grant his deepest desire, no matter what cost.

Outside the house, Keiichi is working on a motorbike, but he is sweltering in the summer heat. Just then, Peorth arrives with a glass of soda for him. Keiichi is naturally suspicious, thinking the drink is tainted with something, knowing how she’s been tricking him and throwing herself upon him at any given opportunity. Peorth breaks into an overly melodramatic speech of how heart-broken she is over Keiichi’s refusal of her. Softening up, he finally accepts the drink. Little does he realize that before she hands it to him, she secretly slips the “Crystal Teardrop of Love” pill into the drink. As soon as Keiichi is finished with it, the effects of the pill cause him to fall into unconsciousness. When he awakens, he will officially be in love with Peorth, and she will finally be able to grant his heart’s desire. Unfortunately, as Peorth and everyone else is about to discover, it seems that she made a grave miscalculation when she concocted the formula for the potion…

The trouble beings a while later when Megumi arrives to see the photos that Keiichi had taken. Seeing her brother asleep under a tree, she wakes him. As soon as Keiichi opens his eyes, a strange sensation suddenly overcomes Megumi. She collapses to her knees, and confesses her passionate love for her brother. It seems that Peorth’s tampering with Urd’s potion now causes anyone who looks at Keiichi to fall in love with him. Keiichi is obviously frightened by his sister’s sudden passionate and aggressive behavior toward him, and ducks for cover inside the house, trying to keep Megumi out. The situation only turns worse when Skuld approaches, wondering what all the noise is about. As soon as she looks into Keiichi’s eyes, she falls madly in love, just like Megumi. Poor Keiichi can only stand there helpless, wondering what’s going on.

At that very same moment, Urd is doing an inventory check on her supply of potions. She had noticed Peorth’s strange and sneaky behavior earlier that day, and sure enough, she notices that one of her Seeds of Love pills is now gone. Urd steps outside to look for Peorth, only to find Keiichi out in the hall, with both Megumi and Skuld hanging all over him. Of course, as soon as their eyes meet, Urd is taken by feelings of passionate love. Fortunately, she is able to control herself, and turn away from Keiichi so the spell is instantly broken. Seeing how her younger sister and Megumi are reacting toward him, Urd theorizes that Peorth was trying to tamper with her Seeds of Love formula to somehow win Keiichi’s trust, but something went wrong, and now the effect of the pill has been altered, which is why everyone is acting so strangely around him.

Meanwhile, outside the house, Belldandy is hanging the laundry and thinking back on Peorth’s words earlier. She wishes to give Keiichi anything he desires, but wonders if perhaps there is something she cannot provide. When she steps inside, she finds the hectic scene between Keiichi, her sisters, and Megumi. When he sees Belldandy enter, Keiichi quickly turns his head away, not wanting to get her involved as well. Of course, he happens to turn his head directly to Urd, who is instantly taken in by Peorth’s accidental love spell, and is this time unable to fight it.

Keiichi tries to explain to Belldandy about what happened, and why he doesn’t want her to look at him. This only causes the gentle Goddess to hold him, and ask why it would be so horrible for her to fall in love with him. Keiichi understands that Belldandy is the one woman he wants to be in love with, and turns to face her, stating that he is willing to face any hard times that lie ahead as long as she is with him. To his surprise, the spell does not take any effect on Belldandy when he turns to her. Since there is already love between them, the spell is futile. As the two lovers embrace, a force of energy flies out from the Goddess’ body, which spreads throughout the entire city. This energy restores Megumi, Skuld, and Urd back to normal.

That night, as Keiichi and Urd sit outside the house, Keiichi still wonders why the spell had no effect on Belldandy when he looked at her. As for Peorth, Urd slipped her a different love potion in an act of revenge, and the troublesome Goddess spends a romantic evening expressing her true feelings to a ceramic statue.
