  Volume 11 Chapter 66A - Fourth Time’s a Charmer

Start of the FOURTH GODDESS Arc

The story begins up in Heaven. A mysterious woman who we have not met before sits alone, and speaks to herself of how she senses a heart crying out for help on Earth down below. The woman proclaims that she will personally heal this damaged heart by granting their very deepest, darkest desire…

Meanwhile, on Earth, we find Keiichi showing Belldandy some photographs of her he had taken with his new camera that he bought from Megumi. As Belldandy admires the photographs, she leans ever closer to Keiichi, sending the poor boy into near hysterics over being so close to his loving Goddess. Of course, this special moment is interrupted, as always, by the arrival of Urd and Skuld (Skuld wanted to make sure the two weren’t getting too close, and Urd wanted to admire Keiichi’s photos). Wanting to get away from these two, Keiichi decides to go inside the house and call Megumi to invite her over to see the pictures.

Keiichi picks up the phone and dials a number, but just like his first meeting with Belldandy, it seems fate has more in store for our hero. Instead of Megumi’s voice on the other end, it is a voice of a very passionate young woman who states she has been dying for his call, and will personally appear before him to grant his heart’s desire. Before Keiichi can even say a word, a brilliant beam of light shoots out from the camera lens lying on the table nearby, and from out of the beam forms the beautiful Goddess First Class, Type Two Unlimited – Peorth. It is the same woman we saw in the opening scene in Heaven.

Peorth makes a grand entrance, complete with elegant and sexy poses as she announces her name. While the Goddess tries to figure out which entrance pose she likes better, poor Keiichi is trying to deal with the fact that he’s done it again, and brought another Goddess into his life. As expected, Peorth has come to grant Keiichi a wish. Unfortunately, as Keiichi explains, he’s kind of full with Goddesses. Peorth is confused by his response, but gets her answer when Urd enters the room. Both Goddesses are naturally shocked to see each other. As if that weren’t enough, Skuld enters the room shortly afterward, which sends Peorth’s head spinning even more. How can a human have two Goddesses in his house? Of course, the situation turns even worse for the new Goddess when Belldandy enters the room. Belldandy is happy to see Peorth again, but the fourth Goddess seems less than thrilled by Bell’s arrival, and treats her quite coldly. It seems that Peorth works for a rival agency up in Heaven, and she is determined to grant Keiichi’s wish, as he summoned her over the phone. Keiichi tries to explain to Belldandy how it happened, but she obviously can’t help but be a little hurt that he has summoned another Goddess over the phone.

Changing the subject, Peorth decides to get to work at granting Keiichi’s deepest desire within his heart. Keiichi insists there’s nothing he wants from her, but Peorth is determined. He tries wishing that Peorth would go back home, but she’s not falling for that. Seeing the three other goddesses here makes Peorth think they are here because Keiichi summoned them all, and can’t make up his mind on what to wish for. Imagine her surprise when she discovers Belldandy is contracted to stay with Keiichi, and the wish that he made when they first met long ago. Peorth simply cannot believe that a wish for a Goddess to stay by a human’s side for all time would be approved by the Almighty.

Later that night, Keiichi and the four Goddesses sit around the kitchen table, trying to sort the situation out. Peorth concludes that they have an overlapping contract situation. Despite Keiichi’s contract with Belldandy, Peorth must also be contracted to grant a wish of his, and she refuses to leave until she does. It must not be just any wish, but a wish that comes from Keiichi’s very heart and soul. Keiichi tries to reassure Belldandy, who he notices is looking rather depressed over this whole situation, that everything will be fine. The gentle Goddess forces out a smile, but Keiichi knows that something is not right.

A little while later, Keiichi sits alone in his room, trying to decide what to wish for so he can get rid of Peorth. Unknown to him, Peorth stands in the hallway outside, determined to stop at nothing to discover and grant Keiichi’s one true wish.

The Fourth Goddess arc (v11c066 to v12c072) is a fairly long arc that introduces the fourth goddess, Peorth. This arc introduces Peorth as a rather eccentric, haughty, liberal and somewhat paranoid goddess, setting the ground for one of the funniest arcs in the manga. This arc illustrates that it is possible to have more than one goddess contract at any one time, a situation called an overlapping contract situation.
