Classes at Nekomi Tech start in two weeks but Megumi still has not found an apartment. She's hoping for a very nice place within walking distance of the campus that is cheap. Keiichi shows her that some not very nice apartments a greater distance from the school cost several times more than she's willing to spend a month. Megumi isn't worried though and asks them to join her on her hunt the next day.

That evening, Belldandy and Megumi talk. Belldandy wants to ask Keiichi if Megumi can stay but Megumi tells her not to worry. She makes a remark on how Belldandy seems like a goddess and as Belldandy begins to confess this, Keiichi bursts in on the scene and stops her.

The next day, the trio head out to find a place which meets Megumi's standards but as Keiichi had said, nothing could be found in her price range. Belldandy casts a spell and discovers that they are right in front of an available apartment that will satisfy Megumi. The landlord can't keep the place rented and requests they examine the place closely.

Upon entering the apartment, Belldandy senses something is wrong and commands the source of the troubles to come out. An earth spirit appears and attempts to possess Keiichi. Belldandy cast a paralysis field spell on the earth spirit using a piece of her earring which forces him to submit. He then relates that through his carelessness, he allowed the humans to drive a grounding stake into his main earth power line. So he attempted to get the humans to leave hoping they would remove the stake.

After explaining to Keiichi what an earth power line is, Belldandy offers to reenergize the earth spirit's earth power line if he will return to taking care of the land. The earth spirit agrees and Belldandy does her thing. The earth spirit immediately pledges to help Belldandy whenever she may need it, but she requests that he watch over Megumi. He agrees and Belldandy asks him to choose his guardian form. Megumi comes into the room and sees Belldandy holding a rat. Belldandy introduces the rat as Megumi's guardian spirit which causes Megumi to scream.
